The work of the London-based designer label Ashish (run by Ashish Gupta) is distinctive for its unique blending of Western and Eastern influences, with bold prints, bright colours, prolific sequins, intricate workmanship and a penchant for popular culture references as well as grown-up glamour. Many of the pieces produced are finished by hand using traditional Indian embroidery and beading techniques. Gupta launched his label Ashish in 2001 when the prestigious London boutique Browns Focus made an order from his debut capsule collection in 2001, initiating an interest from stylists and buyers.
