MoMu (ModeMuseum Provincie Antwerpen), which followed on from the textile museum Vrieselhof, opened its doors on September 21st 2002.
At first sight it seems paradoxical to exhibit fashion. After all, a museum can never keep up with fashion, is somehow always a step behind. Why, and especially how, can one 'preserve’ something that is constantly moving?
Therefore MoMu translates its collection – containing a historical and a contemporary section – as a 'living’ collection, a 'work in progress'. In ever-changing theme exhibitions the museum approaches its collection, and fashion as a phenomenon, with an open mind and places them in a context as broad as possible.
