text Traditionally, the pattern is regarded as a technical drawing or design that, in the context of the museum, is only interesting for research purposes. Fashion museums, in their acquisition and exhibition policies, focus primarily on the end product -the item of clothing- while the pattern is rarely displayed, let alone acquired or purchased.
Clothing is produced for a body and it largely determines the corporeal images that typify an era. In the context of the fashion museum, however, the body is a priori excluded. Instead, fashion museums use mannequins to create the illusion of a body.
