The Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch founded his own label in 1990 and it quickly became the most avant-garde and sophisticated label in Brazil. Alexandre Herchcovitch was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on July 21st, 1971. He had his first contact with fashion through his mother, who taught him some basic notions of pattern cutting and sewing. He spent his college years in an orthodox Jewish school. Thereafter, he attended the Santa Marcelina fashion school which was run by catholic nuns. This confrontation with religion on the one hand and the city’s alternative night-circuit on the other triggered his first reflections regarding sexuality and the represented image, forming Alexandre Herchcovitch’s style and creative attitude.
