For the course of six days, the Musée Galliera opened its doors to the public presenting the work of more than sixty designers. The exhibition, which was co-organised by the city of Paris, and had its second instalment in 2002, took place during the fashion trade show at the Porte de Versailles. The intention was to give an large-scale overview of international contemporary fashion in Paris.
Aside from haute couture, and ready-to-wear, Mode à Suivre also included street fashion and experimental research. The exhibition was divided up into three sections: womenswear, menswear and accessories.
