Created in October 1999, Paris-based Magazine features fashion, art and graphic design. A reliable analysis of French and international magazines rounds off the content. Editorial, graphic and iconographic projects are analysed. The result is an overview of the creative forces that be and active in the graphic, fashion, photography and publishing field.
Edited till 2002 by French bookstore ofr, Magazine is a bimonthly free mag. 30.000 copies are distributed in a network of cultural and a-list locations and during special events such as the fashion week, the Festival de Hyères and the Festival d’Art Contemporain. Each issue features 5 magazines and its universe of reference in fashion, graphic design, design and art. In addition, several headings complete Magazine’s layout: an anonymous interview, images and logos analysis, newsfeed and an agenda.
Constantly renewed, each issue of Magazine is designed by a new artistic director. Guests have included Yorgo Tloupas, Michel Mallard, Laurent Fétis or Tdm.
An exhibition during the Festival de Hyères in 2002 featured the first fourteen issues of Magazine. The BNF - French National Library archives a collection of Magazine. Images contributors are among others: Grégoire Alexandre, Giasco Bertoli, French designer/illustrator Charles Anastase, Geoffrey Cottenceau, Duac Liao, Harri Pecinotti, Maurice Sheltens and Martine Stig. Contributing editors are Thomas Lélu, Pierre Ponant and purple institute’s Olivier Zahm.
