Translated from Japanese as "The sound of now", Tokion is the only bilingual lifestyle magazine offering a platform for some of this generation´s most creative voices to be heard both in their own country and abroad.
Tokion connects Japanese and world pop-culture with a global perspective on emerging talent in music, fashion, art and media. With a desire to connect to what is genuine, Tokion stands out simply with both style, heart and substance.
A magazine for those who are seeking new ways of seeing and thinking, Tokion combines powerful images, words and concepts. Its mission is to bridge the gap between Tokyo and the West through an explosive, tantalizing, provocative, mind-bending, and always stimulating aesthetic.
Philosophy
Tokion was born out of a desire to disseminate percolating pop culture to a larger and more varied global audience. The magazine began in 1996 when two Americans met in Tokyo and realized they were immersed in an incredibly vibrant youth culture movement that wasn't receiving the media attention it deserved, either at home or abroad. With Tokion's help, the neighborhoods of Tokyo became widely known by trend conscious players the world over. Since that time they have greatly broadened its horizons, growing from a local magazine to an international one with distribution throughout the globe. They were the world's first bilingual lifestyle magazine with newsstand distribution in both Japan and North America.
Today, Tokion continues to carry this torch, being widely recognized as the first to discover and cover new talent in art, design, music and fashion. They inspire and influence new directions in style, art and sound. Only Tokion is bridging the gap between east and west through the universal language of pop culture.
