Life is a picnic
A family dinner in the garden when all generations - from very young & silly to quite old & wicked - get together can be very nice and friendly, but also a hotbed of confrontations - for instance when the elderly grandmother thinks her darling grandchildren dress and talk just that little bit too loud...
For spring/summer 2000 Bernhard Willhelm close fresh colours, fabrics and cuts, concentrating on crispness, a cool feeling and known and loved designs, many with references to those great picnics out in the open of yesterday with their matching tablecloths, napkins and tea-towels, sweet & naive decoration and a pureness that transcends millennia.
Fabrics: cotton, grandmother's silk, ottoman, taffeta, jersey, shirt cotton, embroidery cotton, snowflake and gold mousse line. Often crispy, never hard.
Prints: stripes, checks, flowers, kitsch, embroidery, fun!
Colours: always contrasting, like green, blue and black against red, wine and navy blue, with a fresh and summery feel throughout.
Pieces: the folded taffeta cummerbund makes a comeback at the waist of a skirt or jacket, the family cat - made out of felt - comes out to play, festooned with large stitches at the front of a jacket, another jacket with a smocked and beaded décolleté has a German dirndl feel and an asymmetrical skirt gets even more beautiful with a smocked flower gathering the folds at the waist. Do you get a bit bored with even skirt seams sometimes? Then choose between a rounded flowery seam, or a pointed one that makes you think of napkins - but extremely chic ones, you understand... Dreamers and lovers of the typical Willhelm style will love the skirts with naive embroidered details like playing bunnies, while the circle skirt with felted triangles dancing around the seam, will delight an amaze equally. Very important under this season's voluminous skirts are the ruffles petticoats that you can opt for either in black, white or multicolour. Dresses can be as simple as shirtdress with big sleeves gathered at the wrists, or a fabulous as a dress with a huge smocked flower with beaded details, or...well, let's just say that dresses are important right now. As is the knitwear, where family pets, trees and happy families do their thing on a colourful background that makes you feel very glad it's summertime again.
Accessories to play with are aplenty: there's a big collar consisting of ten superimposed 'napkin' squares, a fun scarf that embraces you with it's attached arms and hands and if you're looking for your next status handbag, look no further: Mr. Monkey head might be just the thing for you!
And to round of things off nicely, a golden bee can be placed at any place you wish to draw attention to, so use you imagination & get playing. The garden is in full bloom, so what are you waiting for?
